Outdoor School

Why is Outdoor School important?
At Soundview School, the outdoor school experience is an essential extension of our Middle Years Programme (MYP), offering students a powerful opportunity to engage with the International Baccalaureate (IB) curriculum beyond the classroom walls. Outdoor school encourages inquiry-based learning in natural settings, allowing students to apply key concepts from science, individuals and societies, and physical and health education through hands-on, real-world experiences. Whether conducting environmental research, navigating team-building challenges, or reflecting on personal growth, students deepen their understanding of global contexts and develop critical Approaches to Learning (ATL) skills such as collaboration, communication, and self-management.

Rooted in the IB learner profile, the outdoor school experience also fosters attributes like risk-taking, caring, and open-mindedness. Students are challenged to step out of their comfort zones, work together as a community, and develop a greater sense of responsibility for the environment and each other. These experiences not only support academic growth but also build resilience, empathy, and a deeper connection to the natural world—key qualities that align with Soundview’s mission to cultivate compassionate, engaged, and globally-minded individuals.
