Just One Week Until BOOLING!
Dear Soundview Families,
As October progresses, our Annual Campaign is in full swing and we still need your support to meet our goal. Tuition alone doesn’t cover the full cost of the Soundview experience. Your contributions help fund essential aspects of our school, including facilities, financial aid, outdoor education, student services, and more. Soundview makes a profound and lasting impact on our children by offering an ethical, rigorous, and compassionate education, one that will benefit them for a lifetime. If you haven’t had the chance to contribute yet, there’s still time to make a meaningful difference! To explore how you can support our school by making a gift or pledge, please click HERE.
Want to see why Soundview matters? Take a moment to hear from Jason, one of our parents who has children in the grade 1/2 and 3/4 classes, HERE.
This week, we also hosted our first ParentMap ParentEd Talk on Tuesday, featuring renowned social psychologist Jonathan Haidt. His presentation explored his book The Anxious Generation. For those who registered but couldn’t attend, you can conveniently access the recording HERE using the password “reclaimchildhood”. Be on the lookout for the November 7th discussion which is centered around strategies for parents of gamers.
Yesterday, at exactly 10:17 am, our students and staff participated in International ShakeOut Day, a global earthquake preparedness drill. It’s an excellent opportunity to reflect on the importance of safety and preparedness. You can learn more about ShakeOut Day HERE and access earthquake readiness tips by clicking HERE.
Here are the October and November reminders and opportunities to look forward to:
Next week is Soundview's first Spirit Week of the school year which will take place from October 21st-25th. Each day will feature a fun and engaging theme, designed to celebrate our community and build school spirit. There is no need to buy new items as we want to keep this stress-free and fun. We mindfully chose themes that offer plenty of flexibility and for the students to show their creative side. You can find the daily themes in the attached flyer HERE.
The middle School Fall Ball Dance is on Friday, October 25th, 4:00 pm to 6:00 pm. All current Soundview MYP students are formally invited. The eighth-graders are busy planning a fun afternoon of dancing, activities, and light snacks. The theme is “Hallows-Eve,” and students are encouraged to wear formal attire, spooky imperial OR Halloween costumes.
The parent-teacher and student-led conferences will be on Thursday, October 31st and Friday, November 1st. There will be no school for students on these days. Childcare will be available for the time(s) of your in-person conference(s).
Soundview's retake and sibling picture day is scheduled for Tuesday, November 5th. To RSVP and reserve your spot, simply click HERE.
Friday, November 22nd is Soundview’s Grandparents and Special Friends Day (GPSF), a wonderful opportunity for grandparents and special friends to join us on campus and share in the Soundview experience. Guests are invited to spend an engaging hour in the classroom, participating in projects and activities alongside their students. It’s always a heartwarming day filled with connection and creativity! Around the world and in different communities, October is a month of recognition and awareness:
Wednesday, October 9th was National Stop Bullying Awareness Day, an opportunity for focused efforts to prevent and address bullying in our communities. This day falls on the second Wednesday in October. Schoolchildren, their teachers and their parents spend time learning about bullying and recognizing how they can prevent it. You can read more about HERE.
Wednesday, October 16th was International Pronouns Day, which aims to make respecting, sharing, and educating about personal pronouns commonplace. You can learn more HERE. Knowing and using a person’s correct pronouns fosters inclusion, makes people feel respected and valued, and affirms their gender identity. You can learn about why pronouns matter HERE.
Thursday, October 17th was Spirit Day, an international LGBTQ+ awareness day. Spirit Day is a day observed on the third Thursday in October. Started in 2010 by Canadian teenager Brittany McMillan, it was initially created in response to a rash of widely publicized bullying-related suicides of gay school students in 2010, including that of Tyler Clementi. You can read more about this HERE.
October 22nd is International Stuttering Awareness Day (ISAD), established in 1998. This day is intended to raise public awareness of stuttering, which affects one percent of the world's population. You can learn more about this by visiting HERE.
We’re looking forward to showing our school spirit next week!

One more thing…
On October 18th, 1972 the Clean Water Act became law. The Clean Water Act (CWA) is the primary federal law in the United States governing water pollution in rivers, streams, lakes and bays. Its objective is to restore and maintain the chemical, physical, and biological integrity of the nation's waters; recognizing the responsibilities of the states in addressing pollution and providing assistance to states to do so, including funding for publicly owned treatment works for the improvement of wastewater treatment; and maintaining the integrity of wetlands.
