Mid-Winter Break!
Dear Soundview Families,
Congratulations everybody for a successful start to the second semester. It’s already mid-winter break! It’s a quick letter this week.
Soundview school and office will be closed next week, February 19th through 23rd, for Presidents’ Day holiday and mid-winter break. School resumes at the usual time on Monday, February 26th.
Save the dates:
March 14, after school, in Soundview’s Performing Arts Center, our Soundview Parent and Guardian Association (SPGA) is hosting a parent education session with Dr. Heather Clark. Dr. Clark will lead participants through foundational vocabulary and concepts of diversity, equity, and inclusion. Details and RSVP available in my March 1st email.
April 20, 2024, from 5:30 to 9:00 pm, at the Edmonds Waterfront Center, Soundview will come together with our board of trustees and emcee Neslon Jay for the Soundview spring benefit event. We’ll be building community and raising funds for all programs that demonstrate Soundview’s commitment to diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging. This event is for everybody. There will be participation levels for all. Tickets will go on sale soon after mid-winter break.
Soundview Summer Camp registration is well underway! Our camp options are for all ages over six week-long sessions. We make our camps available to both Soundview students and to the public, be sure to secure your place now before they fill up! Register HERE.
Around the world and in different communities, February is a month of recognition and awareness:
Tuesday, February 20th is World Day of Social Justice. This is an international day recognizing the need to promote social justice, which includes efforts to tackle issues such as poverty, exclusion, gender inequality, unemployment, human rights, and social protections. World Day of Social Justice reminds us each year of the need to build fairer, more equitable societies. The International Labour Organization (ILO) marks the occasion this year with a series of six events held in major cities around the globe. You can read more about this day HERE.
Enjoy the break everyone,
Chris

One more thing…
February 16th, 1968 the first official "911" call was placed in the United States. Now taken for granted as the first course of action in the event of emergency by nearly all of the nation's 327 million people, 911 is a relatively recent invention and was still not standard across the United States for many years after its adoption by Congress. As telephones became more common in U.S. households, fire departments around the country recommended establishing a single, simple number to be dialed in the event of a fire or other emergency. You can read more about this HERE.
