Spirit Store is Open!
Dear Soundview families,
The new Soundview Spirit Store is open for business. A portion of all sales support our financial aid program. Get your tees, hoodies, hats, and more today HERE!
Last Friday’s assembly was a lot of fun. Check out the dance party finale HERE.
Curriculum Night for early childhood through second grade was a success. Thank you to everyone who attended! Our partnership is powerful. Throughout the year, we’ll continue offering opportunities for you to engage with Soundview’s curriculum. If you have any additional questions from Curriculum Night, or if you were unable to attend, please reach out directly to your child’s teacher. You can see photos from this event below.
Our middle school students returned from outdoor school at NatureBridge. The curriculum at outdoor school sets many of the themes for the rest of the academic school year. Be sure to check out photos from their trip below.
The Soundview Annual Campaign officially launches in October and concludes with BOOLING! to celebrate. Your participation is vital to keeping Soundview’s education ethical, rigorous, and compassionate. Director of Advancement, Ryan Wasserman, is meeting regularly to talk about the campaign and learn about what matters to you. Schedule time with Ryan HERE.
Admissions season is already upon us, and Soundview is now accepting applications for the 2025-2026 school year. Did you know that up to 90% of families who choose a private school do so based on referrals from current families? If you know a family who would benefit from an education that is ethical, rigorous, and compassionate, connect them with our Director of Enrollment Management, Victoria Nunes HERE.
Before and after school care and clubs have started and we have limited availability! You can still register HERE.
Here are the September and early October reminders and opportunities to look forward to:
Our fifth-grade class will be venturing off to Naturebridge for outdoor school next week, September 25th-27th. NatureBridge’s overnight environmental science programs in Olympic National Park offer students the opportunity to engage in inclusive, hands-on learning experiences in the foothills of the Pacific Northwest's majestic Olympic mountains. This is an opportunity to challenge themselves, building meaningful relationships, and discovering a caring relationship with the natural world.
Our first Community Coffee event will be next Wednesday, September 25th and will take place from 9:10 AM - 10:10 AM in the Performing Arts Center. Parking is available after dropping at 9:00 AM. A Community Coffee is an informal conversation with parents, our school counselor, other faculty/staff, and me. I’ll bring a topic of interest, and it’s time to connect with our community. We’ve added morning and afternoon times to make these events more accessible. You can find all of the dates on the Community Calendar HERE.
School picture day is Tuesday, October 8th for all students. There will be time for retakes, missed students, and sibling photos on Tuesday, November 5th. Soundview works with Lincoln and Lucy Photography, and you can preview their work HERE.
Join the SPGA on Tuesday, October 1st, from 4:00 PM to 5:00 PM for our exciting first meeting of the year! They’ll discuss their committee objectives, review the calendar of upcoming SPGA events, and share plans for the highly-anticipated BOOLING! All parents and guardians are warmly invited to participate, and a virtual attendance option will be available upon request. If you require childcare while attending the meeting, please sign up HERE.
Around the world and in different communities, September is a month of recognition and awareness:
The International Day of Peace (“Peace Day”) is observed around the world each year on 21st September. Established in 1981 by unanimous United Nations resolution, Peace Day provides a globally shared day for all humanity to commit to Peace above all differences and to contribute to building a Culture of Peace. You can learn more HERE.
September 27th is National Native American Day. The observance of Native American Day focuses on a celebration of the history, heritage, and culture of tribes across the United States. You can learn more HERE.
Enjoy the weekend,
Chris
Chris Watson, Soundview Head of School
One more thing…
On September 20th, 2011, the federal government repealed “Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell,” a law that had allowed gay people to serve in the U.S. armed forces only if they kept their sexual orientation a secret. As of today, patriotic Americans in uniform will no longer have to lie about who they are in order to serve the country they love. The law was established in 1994, and for 17 years the law prohibited qualified gay, lesbian and bisexual Americans from serving in the armed forces and sent a message that discrimination was acceptable. You can learn more about this HERE.
