School Field Trips!
Grades 1/2 Field Trip to Craven Farms
Middle School Field Trip to North Creek Forest
Dear Soundview Families,
It was another great week. On Wednesday, first- and second-grade classes went to Craven Farms. They came back with pumpkins big and small. Thanks to all our chaperones and drivers!. You can learn more about the Craven Farm HERE. Yesterday, at 10:19 AM local time, we participated in International ShakeOut Day, a worldwide earthquake preparedness drill. You can learn more about ShakeOut Day HERE and find earthquake preparedness recommendations HERE. And today, all middle school students went to North Creek Forest. Soundview students have logged more hours than any other organization doing urban wilderness restoration work at North Creek Forest. We were even recognized by Governor Jay Inslee! You can learn more about this park HERE.
Here are upcoming events and opportunities now and through October:
November 17, 2023 is Soundview’s Grandparents and Special Friends Day (GPSF). This is a day when we invite grandparents and special friends of our students to spend an hour in our classrooms doing projects and activities with their students. Detailed information and RSVP form is HERE.
Our SPGA now has a Soundview gear recycling program! Do you have shirts, sweatshirts, or other Soundview gear that your child has outgrown? Drop off gently used gear at the main office. The goal is to have every student at Soundview repping their school! Once we establish an inventory, SPGA will facilitate distribution. Reach out to SPGA President Carson Kaiser-Brown with questions about donations or requests HERE.
Admission tours and applications for the 2024-2025 school year are available! Please tell your friends and family about Soundview. We would love to give them a tour and introduce them to our school. For any and all questions, contact our Director of Enrollment Management, Victoria Nunes HERE.

The Annual Campaign is coming up in the month of December. Tuition alone does not afford the full Soundview experience. Facilities, financial aid, outdoor school, student services, and so much more depend on your support. To learn more about the culture of philanthropy in independent schools, reach out to Advancement Manager Ryan Wasserman HERE.
October provides a number of additional opportunities to widen our perspectives and awareness:
Wednesday, October 11th was National Stop Bullying Awareness Day, an opportunity for focused efforts to prevent and address bullying in our communities. You can read more about HERE.
October 16th through 22nd is Waste Reduction Week in Canada, aimed at awareness of sustainable and responsible consumption. You can learn more HERE.
Wednesday, October 18th was International Pronouns Day, which aims to make respecting, sharing, and educating about personal pronouns commonplace. You can learn more HERE. Knowing and using a person’s correct pronouns fosters inclusion, makes people feel respected and valued, and affirms their gender identity. You can learn about why pronouns matter HERE.
Thursday, October 19th was Spirit Day, an international LGBTQ+ awareness day. You can read more about this HERE.
October 22nd is International Stuttering Awareness Day (ISAD), established in 1998. This day is intended to raise public awareness of stuttering, which affects one percent of the world's population. You can learn more about this by visiting HERE.
We’re looking forward to showing our school spirit next week!
Go Soundview,
Chris

One more thing…
On Oct. 20, 1924, the final game of the first Negro World Series was played and won by the Kansas City Monarchs over the Hilldale Athletic Club (also known as the Darby Daisies) — the first major league franchise to bring a championship to Kansas City. You can read more about this HERE.
