What a Success!
Dear Soundview Families,
Thank you all for coming together and making the Soundview Annual Giving Campaign a success! There are still gifts coming in, we will have an official campaign result for you soon. In case you were busy during the holidays you can still be part of giving by visiting HERE.
A big THANK YOU to our generous donors who gave over the Winter Break!
Thanks to our community for the continued efforts to keep Soundview as healthy as possible coming into the new year. Remember, soundview has free home Covid tests and masks if you need them. Also, it’s very important to stay up-to-date on vaccinations and boosters. Let’s keep it going!
As we head into the heart of winter, here is a reminder of what to expect in case of inclement weather:
School is always open and on regular schedule unless an announcement is made otherwise.
Soundview does not necessarily follow the closure decisions made by Edmonds School District or any other area schools.
If you feel unsafe coming to school, please stay at home and let us know. Make the safest decision for your family. Check Toddle or contact your teacher(s) directly for schoolwork/homework if Soundview is open and your student cannot make it in.
You will be notified of the school closure no later than 6:15 AM via email.
Updates will also be made on the Soundview website, social media, and morning news announcements on KOMO 4, KIRO 7, Q13, or KING 5.
Before/after-school programs, school events, and evening meetings will also be canceled for the day.
Soundview may add days to the school year to make up the missed time if we have three or more snow/inclement weather days. No make-up days will be added if there are fewer than four missed days. Thanks and stay safe!
Here are some reminders and opportunities as we start a new calendar year:
The Before and After Care and Clubs options are now available to book for the Winter and Spring of 2024. We have seen a large amount of registration over the break and clubs are filling up fast, please be sure to register your student by visiting HERE. Summer Camp registration will be open at the end of the month.
Admission deadlines for the 2024-2025 school year are fast approaching in February, all applications from prospective new families are due February 2nd. If you know of a family that would benefit from an ethical, rigorous, and compassionate education, please put them in touch with our Director of Admissions, Victoria Nunes, as soon as possible by visiting HERE.
Soundview and the Soundview Parent and Guardian Association (SPGA) have partnered with Clothes for Kids! Their mission is to empower students for success, one wardrobe at a time. Each year, Clothes for Kids provides quality clothing for thousands of students in a retail store environment, where kids and teens can pick out their own clothes with their families. Clothes for Kids has served over 3,400 local underprivileged kids so far this school year and we are proud to be partnering with them. They are especially in need of winter items like hats, gloves, and coats. You can learn more about their mission HERE:
Collection will happen during drop off and pick up so you don’t even have to get out of your car to participate in this wonderful event. The clothing drive will also be linked with the donation of the unclaimed lost and found items at the school. There will be two main donation and collection days happening with the help of the SPGA, January 12th and 26th. Clothes can be donated at any time to the office during these weeks, but we would prefer to keep it as close to the collection days as possible so we are efficient in this process, and as well being mindful of the space limitations in our work areas.
SPGA’’s next big event is the Soundview Game Night and Chili Cook-Off on Saturday, January 27th from 5:00 PM - 7:00 PM. The game night will be on the Soundview campus with a variety of games for all age levels. The cook-off will have categories for chili, mac and cheese, kids’ cornbread, as well as opportunities to bring desserts and sides! Look for all the details in next Friday's email.
Around the world and in different communities, January is a month of recognition and awareness:
January is Poverty Awareness Month, a month-long initiative to raise awareness and call attention to the growth of poverty in America. For 130 years people have been fighting to end poverty by creating equity and opportunity. You can learn more about this HERE.
Thursday, January 4th was World Braille Day. World Braille Day is celebrated to honor the birth of Braille's inventor, Louis Braille. Braille's gift to the world has brightened the lives of millions of people around the world who are blind or visually impaired, and they benefit from his work every day. You can learn more about this HERE.
Happy New Year!

One more thing…
On January 5th, 1933 the construction began on the Golden Gate Bridge, as workers began excavating 3.25 million cubic feet of dirt for the structure’s huge anchorages. The bridge once boasted the longest main span in the world and it has been celebrated for the magnificence of its setting. You can learn more about this HERE.
