Inclement Weather
As we head into the heart of winter, here’s a reminder of what to expect in case of inclement weather:

  • School is always open and on regular schedule unless an announcement is made otherwise.

  • Soundview does not necessarily follow the closure decisions made by Edmonds School District or any other area schools.

  • If you feel unsafe coming to school, please stay at home and let us know. Make the safest decision for your family. Check Toddle or contact your teacher(s) directly for schoolwork/homework if Soundview is open and your student cannot make it in.

  • You will be notified of the school closure no later than 6:15 AM via email.

  • Updates will also be made on the Soundview website, social media, and morning news announcements on KOMO 4, KIRO 7, Q13, or KING 5.

  • Before/after-school programs, school events, and evening meetings will also be canceled for the day.

  • Soundview may add days to the school year to make up the missed time if we have three or more snow/inclement weather days. No make-up days will be added if there are fewer than four missed days. Thanks and stay safe!

Around the world and in different communities, February is a month of recognition and awareness:

  • Saturday, February 1st, is the start of Black History Month. This is a period in February where the United States celebrates and recognizes the achievements and contributions of Black Americans throughout history, highlighting their impact on American culture and society. It's a time to focus on the experiences and struggles of all African Americans throughout all periods of U.S. history. Black History Month celebrates the rich cultural heritage, triumphs and adversities that are an indelible part of our country's past. You can learn more HERE

  • Saturday, February 1st is also National Freedom Day. National Freedom Day was established in 1948 to commemorate the historic signing of the 13th Amendment to the U.S. Constitution by President Abraham Lincoln on February 1st, 1865. This amendment outlawed slavery, representing a major step toward achieving equality for all Americans. You can learn more HERE

  • February is American Heart Month. It is an annual observance dedicated to raising awareness about heart health and cardiovascular diseases. It serves as a reminder to prioritize heart-healthy lifestyles, learn about heart disease prevention, and support those affected by cardiovascular conditions. Learn more HERE

  • Tuesday, February 4th is Rosa Parks Day. Rosa Parks Day honors the American Civil Rights hero who refused to give up her seat for a white passenger while riding a city bus in Montgomery, Alabama. Learn more about Rosa Parks HERE

I hope everyone gets some rest after a very active and exciting week!

One more thing…
Doug Williams made history in 1988 as the first Black quarterback to win a Super Bowl, leading the Washington Football Team to victory over the Denver Broncos in Super Bowl XXII. His achievement broke racial barriers in a position historically dominated by white players and became a symbol of progress for Black athletes, particularly in football. Williams' victory shattered stereotypes and paved the way for future generations of Black quarterbacks, leaving a lasting legacy of perseverance and representation in sports.
