Veterans Day: A Day of Remembrance!
Dear Soundview Families,
This week has been filled with a range of emotions. Soundview is the best place to be, regardless of your political preferences. We are here for our community, and you belong here. Please don’t hesitate to reach out and connect.
Reminder, Soundview school and offices are closed to observe Veterans Day on Monday, November 11. School resumes at the usual time on Tuesday, November 12. Veterans Day holds deep significance for my family and for many others in our Soundview community. The photo above is one my grandmother carried in her purse every day while my grandfather served in the Army during WWII. I encourage each of you to take a moment to honor those who have served and sacrificed to protect our freedoms. Now more than ever, I am proud to be part of a school that champions an ethical, rigorous, and compassionate education.
Our students were out in the community this week. Our seventh-grade Humanities class visited Idris Mosque, continuing their World Religions unit. These field trips give students a unique opportunity to explore primary sources by engaging with the people, architecture, and practices of each faith. Back in the classroom, students reflect on how these experiences deepen their understanding as they prepare to research a religion of their choice. Learn more about Idris Mosque HERE, and see photos from the trip below.
First and second-grade students walked over to Brighton Court to interview a panel of residents. Their Community unit is about how people work together to meet their needs and achieve common goals, with a focus on roles, responsibilities, and interdependence. Students generated questions to ask the residents about the communities they have been part of throughout their lives. You can learn about Brighton Court HERE, and see photos from the outing below.
It’s getting cold! Please provide your students with plenty of layers of clothing. We continue to work and play outdoors throughout the winter. Gloves, hats, and rain pants are all essential to keeping students happy and productive. As the weather changes, inclement weather can affect school operations. Soundview makes its own decisions about school closures or delays. We do not follow the local school district or other schools. You will be notified in the case of any changes to normal school operations. If you don’t hear from us, we’re open!
Here are the November reminders or opportunities to look forward to:

Around the world and in different communities, November is a month of recognition and awareness:
Monday, November 11th is Veterans Day. This is a federal holiday in the United States observed annually on November 11, for honoring military veterans of the United States Armed Forces. It is largely intended to thank LIVING veterans for their service, to acknowledge that their contributions to our national security are appreciated, and to underscore the fact that all those who served – not only those who died – have sacrificed and done their duty. You can learn more about this important holiday HERE.
Be well, and take care of yourself and each other!
