Soundview: Grandparents, Special Friends, Conferences, and BOOLING!

Dedicated this day in 1886

Dear Soundview Family,

Do you know about the Soundview Scepter? Be sure to ask your student?

We are all so excited for BOOLING! on Saturday, October 29 (tomorrow)! We have over 250 bowlers signed up! In order to make sure we didn't overload the lanes, we will be bowling in three groups: noon, 1:00 PM and 2:00 PM. Christine Heidel sent everyone their bowling times, but you are welcome to come early and enjoy the pizza. There will be Soundview Parent Guardian Association volunteers available to help you find your bowling time and lane. Don't forget to visit Trunk-or-Treat in the parking lot when you are not bowling!

Next Monday, October 31 and Tuesday, November 1, Soundview will hold parent-teacher conferences. There are no classes for students these days. Regular school resumes on Wednesday, November 2, 2022 at the usual time. Conferences are an important opportunity to discuss your child’s development as well as for our older students to practice their reflection, goal-setting, and presentation skills. Here is a quick explanation of each participant’s roles:

Students (5th - 8th graders lead their own conferences; conferences for lower grades are not student-led):

  • Identify strengths and areas for growth with specific examples

  • Celebrate the students’ strengths

  • Create a plan for addressing the students’ areas for growth

Parents:

  • Please be punctual (it’s a very busy day)

  • Stay positive; focus on your child’s strengths

  • Be interested and ask questions

Teachers:

  • Manage the time respectfully

  • Provide probing questions and highlight achievements

  • Be ready to clarify where necessary

The admissions campaign for next year’s enrollment is very robust, but we still need your help. Please take a moment to tell your friends about Soundview School and what it means to your family.

The annual giving campaign officially launches on December 1, 2022. Please be on the look-out for your opportunity to keep Soundview School ethical, rigorous, and compassionate.

On December 9, 2022, we will welcome Grandparents and Special Friends to Soundview classrooms. Registration is required and late-comers are welcome. We will publish a sign-up sheet for registration in the next Friday message.

All the best for a great Halloween!
