Native American Heritage Month and Thanksgiving Day
Dear Soundview Family,
I wish you all a restful break next week as we recognize Native American Heritage Month and Thanksgiving Day. School resumes Monday, November 28, 2022.
Please make sure your family administers their covid tests before returning to school.
Just as soon as we return to school, Soundview’s Annual Campaign begins. You will receive a letter from us and we’re hosting three Wednesday coffees to share why we give. There will NOT be an ask at these coffee dates. We just want you to meet with a few people who give to Soundview School. The coffee dates are:
Wednesday, November 30 2022; 9:15 in the PAC
Wednesday December 7, 2022; 9:15 in the PAC
Wednesday December 14, 2022; 9:15 in the PAC
Soundview is now a pick-up and drop-off spot for Issaquah Ski School and their bus to the mountains. Soundview provides this as a courtesy to Issaquah Ski School. While we are not affiliated with Issaquah Ski School, our own Ms. Christine Taylor is ski instructor and bus chaperone for Issaquah Ski School. Learn more about the opportunity HERE. Please direct all questions to Issaquah Ski School.
I have bad news about Soundview’s lunch provider Green Sprouts. They will no longer be providing individually packaged meals. Soundview will continue to explore new options. For now, all students must bring their own lunches to school.
I want to let you know about two staffing updates. Our Early Childhood teacher, Sara Smart's, last day at Soundview will be December 16, 2022. Sarah is moving to Oregon due to her partner's Coast Guard orders. She's been very proactive in planning with the school and her team for a graceful transition. We miss her already! Early childhood teacher Alyssa Dillon returns from family leave in December. We will maintain the overall staffing level in your children’s classroom.
Our fifth-grade teacher Mike MacCully will be on family leave from January through March 2023. McKenna Kelly will be joining Mike and co-teaching through the end of December. She will be the class's substitute teacher until Mike returns.
McKenna is a recent graduate of Western Washington University's teacher education program. She has a degree and certificate in elementary education and special education. She did her most recent student teaching this year at Soundview in Ms. Molly's classroom, and she's been subbing at Soundview since then.
We have lots of registrations for Grandparents and Special Friends Day on Friday, December 9. You can still register HERE.
Stay warm,
Chris

One more thing…
Today is National Mickey Mouse Birthday! Mickey’s first words were, “Hot dog!” These were also the first words spoken by an animated character. Learn more HERE.
