What a Great Concert!
Dear Soundview Families,
Congrats to our first and second-graders (the Seals and Otters classes) for a wonderful and successful assembly today! They highlighted Women’s History Month and the March International Baccalaureate (IB) trait “Inquirer.” You can see photos from this event below.
The bands and orchestra concert took place last night, captivating a packed Performing Arts Center audience with a harmony and expression. The concert was not just a musical event; it was a testament to the power of collaboration and the transformative impact of music on the human spirit. You can view pictures from the event below. Look for a video of the concert soon.
It’s the time of year when our eighth - graders are finishing up the Community Project, which is the culmination of a Soundview education. The community project gives students an opportunity to develop awareness of needs in various communities and address those needs through service learning. You can read about our student Skye’s project to serve visually impaired community members in partnership with Edmonds Lions Club HERE.

Around the world and in different communities, March is a month of recognition and awareness:
March 6th was Harriett Tubman’s birthday. Tubman was a fierce activist for slavery abolition and became the first woman ever to command a military operation during the American Civil War. You can learn HERE.
March 8th is International Women's Day. This day is observed to recognize the cultural, political, social, and economic achievements made by women. It serves as an opportunity to inspire efforts to end gender biases and discrimination and achieve gender equality. You can learn HERE.
On March 10th Ramadan begins. Ramadan, the ninth month of the year, is considered one of the holiest months of the year for Muslims. In Ramadan, Muslims commemorate the revelation of the Qur’an, and fast from food and drink during the sunlit hours as a means of drawing closer to God and cultivating self-control, gratitude, and compassion for those less fortunate. Ramadan is a month of spiritual rejuvenation with a heightened focus on devotion, during which Muslims spend extra time reading the Qur’an and performing special prayers. You can learn more about this HERE.
Have a great weekend everyone,
Chris

One more thing…
On March 8th, 1910, Raymonde de Laroche became the first woman in the world to receive a pilot license when the Aero-Club of France issued her license #36 of the Fédération Aéronautique Internationale (International Aeronautics Federation or F.A.I.). At the time, pilot licenses were only required for pilots operating aircraft for commercial purposes. The French aviatrix was also the first woman to fly solo. You can read more about this HERE.
