Enjoy A Relaxing & Well-Deserved Spring Break!

Wishing our entire Soundview community a joyful and refreshing break! Enjoy your time off, and we look forward to welcoming everyone back on campus on Monday, April 14th!

Dear Soundview Community,

As we wrap up a short but meaningful week and head to Spring Break, I hope you found our parent/teacher/student-led conferences to be a reflective and engaging opportunity to discuss your student’s progress. It’s always inspiring to see the growth and achievements of our students, and we appreciate your partnership in their learning journey.

Soundview School and offices are closed for Spring Break next week, April 7th through 11th. School resumes at its normal time on Monday, April 14th. Over the break, our facilities manager, Fred Annett, will be overseeing two projects: replacement of existing fencing and installation of new fencing around the middle school building; and installation of new flooring in Ms. TomiJo’s 3/4 classroom. We’ve been working with our middle school students on some new foot traffic patterns that we’ll start using after the break. Thanks to Mr. Fred!

On Wednesday afternoon, our entire school came together for an in-school orchestra and band concert. Our talented students showcased their hard work and growth throughout the year, performing a variety of musical pieces. It was a wonderful celebration of their dedication and progress! You can view photos from the event below.

On Tuesday we held our 9th ParentEd Talk, From Chaos to Calm, Compassionate Discipline for Spirited Kids with Parent Coach & Author of “Raising Lions” Joe Newman.  You can watch the recorded session with the information below:

Around the world and in different communities, April is a month of recognition and awareness:

  • April 7th is World Health Day (WHD) which is celebrated on this day every year to mark the anniversary of the founding of WHO in 1948. Each year, a theme is selected to highlight a priority area of public health concern in the world. This year's theme, ‘Healthy Beginnings, Hopeful Futures’ centres around increasing our efforts to end preventable newborn and maternal deaths. Read more about this HERE

  • April 11th is the National Day of Silence. This day, which is a student-led event, is a day of advocacy where LGBTQ+ students and allies take a vow of silence to protest the silencing and erasure of LGBTQ+ people, particularly in schools, and to raise awareness about the challenges they face. It’s a nationally-recognized demonstration where LGBTQ+ students and allies all around the country protest the harmful effects of harassment and discrimination of LGBTQ+ people in schools. Wishing you all a wonderful and restful spring break,

One more thing…
On April 4, 1969, Dr. Denton Cooley performed the first successful human heart transplant in the United States at St. Luke’s Episcopal Hospital in Houston, Texas. This groundbreaking procedure marked a pivotal moment in cardiac surgery, showcasing the possibilities of advanced transplantation techniques and paving the way for future innovations in heart replacement therapy. While the patient survived only 32 hours due to complications, Cooley’s bold step pushed the boundaries of medical science and fueled further research into organ transplantation, leading to improved surgical methods, immunosuppressive drugs, and better patient outcomes. His work laid the foundation for modern heart transplantation, ultimately saving countless lives and shaping the future of cardiovascular medicine.
