Move Up Day & Back-to-School Forms!
Dear Soundview Families,
I hope everyone enjoyed the long weekend. The end of the school year is approaching quickly, and we’re making the most of our final units and projects. Our middle school students visited Schack Arts Center in Everett to study the exhibit: Chromacosm: Our Universe in Color. Learn more about the experience HERE and see photos from the trip below.
On Thursday, our first-through fifth-grade students "moved-up" for a preview of next school year, igniting their curiosity and enthusiasm for the learning experiences ahead. You can see photos of their “move-up” below.
Community engagement is at the heart of Soundview’s educational experience. Our students engage in various activities on and off campus throughout the school year, developing their sense of responsibility and leadership. One on-campus activity is our monthly learning buddies program. Students from different classes come together for activities and community-building. This week, learning buddies painted rocks with vibrant colors and positive messages, to be displayed on walkways throughout the Soundview campus. You can see photos from this activity below.
As we look ahead to next school year, please find the school year 2024-2025 calendar HERE.

Around the world and in different communities, June is a month of recognition and awareness:
LGBTQ+ Pride Month, often shortened to Pride Month, is celebrated in June. This is a month dedicated to celebration and commemoration of lesbian, gay, bisexual, queer and transgender community, as well as the accomplishments of LGBTQ+ individuals. The word 'pride' is an integral cultural concept within the Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, Queer, Intersex (LGBTQI) community, representing solidarity, collectivity, and identity as well as resistance to discrimination and violence. Pride Month began after the Stonewall riots, a series of gay liberation protests in 1969. You can learn more about this HERE.
June is Immigrant Heritage Month. Started in 2004, the month commemorates the 117th anniversary of April 17, 1907, the day in New York City history on which the largest number of immigrants – 11,000 – entered the U.S. through Ellis Island. Immigrant Heritage Month has given people across the United States an opportunity to annually explore their own heritage and celebrate the shared diversity that forms the unique story of America. You can learn more about this HERE.
June is Caribbean-American Heritage Month. Started in 2004, Caribbean-American Heritage Month is celebrated by proclamation of the President and Congress in the United States in June to honor the achievements and contributions of Caribbean immigrants and their descendants living in the United States, particularly in government, sports, entertainment, and the arts. You can learn more about this HERE.
Enjoy the weekend,
Chris

One more thing…
On May 31st, 1911 the Royal Main Steamer (RMS) Titanic was launched in Belfast, Northern Ireland and later the fitting-out phase started. The vessel was called “The Ship of Dreams”, and although Titanic was primarily built as a passenger liner, the ship also carried a substantial amount of cargo as well. On April 10th, 1912 the RMS Titanic embarked on its maiden voyage, sailing from Southampton, England, to New York City. Four days later the luxury liner struck an iceberg, and early the next day it sank, killing nearly 1,500. The tragedy captured the world’s imagination and made the Titanic an enduring legend.
