Transitions, exhibitions, and GLBTQQ+: it's all here for you!
June 3, 2022
Dear Soundview Family,
Presidents Clinton, Obama, and Biden all declared the month of June Gay & Lesbian Pride Month. President Obama used these words in his declaration:
This year, we celebrate LGBT Pride Month at a moment of great hope and progress, recognizing that more needs to be done. Support for LGBT equality is growing, led by a generation which understands that, in the words of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., “injustice anywhere is a threat to justice everywhere.”
And the Soundview response? We offer a school environment that is ethical, rigorous, and compassionate. We offer this to every individual student that walks our halls. And we fly the Progressive Pride Flag. That is important. Learn more about the Pride Flag HERE. Learn about the self-affirmation, dignity, equality, and increased visibility of lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender (LGBTQQI+) people HERE. Learn more about Soundview’s dedication by walking our halls. You are always welcome.
Every June, we have introductions and transitions:
We welcome two new middle school teachers. Anh Vu Hong will be Soundview’s math teacher. Anh recently completed her degree in Secondary Mathematics and education at Western Washington University (WWU). She has teaching experience in middle- and high-school, in addition to serving as student ambassador from WWU.
Kailyn Swarthout will be Soundview’s humanities teacher. Kailyn has her bachelor’s, master’s, and education certificate from University of Washington. She has a wide range of experience, including student exchange programs in Thailand, teaching in France, and instructing at Islandwood.
Current humanities teacher Erin Armstrong is moving out of the classroom and will be dedicated to her role as Library and Media Specialist working with all grade levels.
Finally, Matt Stenovec is moving on from Soundview in July to an exciting new opportunity next fall. We will have several opportunities to say goodbye and celebrate his many accomplishments and contributions to Soundview. His own children will still be here next year, so we’ll see him at all the Soundview events!
