“I’m having so much fun at school. I don’t want to go home!”
September 23, 2022
Dear Soundview Family,
Yesterday, I was walking a new Soundview kindergarten student to their car, and they said, “I’m having so much fun at school. I don’t want to go home!” We’re hitting our stride in the new school year, and we’re all doing a great job.
As the school year gets rolling, we have several upcoming events to highlight, as well as a few general informational items:
Outdoor School for fifth- through eighth-graders starts next week with a fifth-grade trip to NatureBridge on the Olympic Peninsula. You can learn more about NatureBridge HERE. In just a couple weeks, sixth-, seventh-, and eighth-graders go to Mount Rainier Institute (MRI). You can learn more about MRI HERE. Outdoor School is a longstanding Soundview tradition, but has been missed since 2019 due to COVID. These programs teach environmental stewardship and the application of academic skills in the field. They are also memorable bonding experiences for our students.
Please note a change of date to our first Community Coffee from Wednesday, October 5 to Wednesday, October 12, at 9:10 AM in the Soundview Performing Arts Center. Parking is available after 9:00 AM.
Our Soundview Parent/Guardian Association hosts several community events throughout the school year. The first event is Booling! Booling is bowling in costumes, and it’s really fun! Mark your calendars for Saturday, October 29, 2022 and look for details in my next Friday email.
Early drop off and before school care are still available. More information is available HERE.
Soundview has done a very good job of managing COVID cases as they affect our school. We currently notify the entire school community of all cases. We are moving that notification to a “dashboard” behind our Parent Portal and will no longer send all-school emails for each case. Click the, “COVID Response and Policies” button at the link HERE after logging in with the password. We will continue to send a direct email and instructions for any classroom exposures.
It was smoky this week, and the air quality was unhealthy. For your reference, we follow the Department of Health guidelines for air quality and our school’s response. You can find a summary of the Department of Health’s guidelines HERE.
Best wishes for a great weekend,
Chris
