The First Assembly of the Year and a Community Coffee

September 16. 2022

Dear Soundview Family,

I would like to begin with this note from the National Hispanic Heritage Month website:

September 15 to October 15 is National Hispanic American Heritage Month.

The Library of Congress, National Archives and Records Administration, National Endowment for the Humanities, National Gallery of Art, National Park Service, Smithsonian Institution and United States Holocaust Memorial Museum join in paying tribute to the generations of Hispanic Americans who have positively influenced and enriched our nation and society.

Congratulations to all of us for completing the first full week of school! We marked the occasion with Soundview’s first all-school assembly of the year. We met in the forest, shared jokes, talked about our values, and recognized birthdays and accomplishments. Our administrative team led today’s assembly. Each class will lead an assembly for the rest of the school year.

We’re hosting our first Community Coffee on October 5, 2022 at 9:00 AM (parking is available at 8:55 after drop-off) in Soundview’s Performing Arts Center. These events are casual–just a chat and a cup of coffee. All Soundview parents are welcome to drop in. Our school counselor Travis Wood and I are your hosts. We’ll bring a relevant topic and resources related to our jobs as parents. Bring your Soundview mugs (we’ll have some for you too).

I meet regularly with the Snohomish Health District. We learned that childhood vaccination rates overall are at an all-time low. Please make sure you are keeping your child’s immunizations up-to-date. Vaccination is the most important way to keep our school and community safe and well.

Several families have expressed interest in donating books to the Soundview library. If you're interested in donating books, please read below for the criteria and the instructions for how to donate.

  • Books should be new or barely used.

  • Books cannot have any earmarks, stains, or writing on them.

  • Since we have a small space, we cannot take copies of books we already have. Please email Ms. Armstrong, Soundview’s librarian and media specialist, a list of any books you're interested in donating at earmstrong@soundview.org.

  • Also, please coordinate with Ms. Armstrong about drop-off times for your donations.

  • Books that cannot be used in the library for whatever reason will go first to classroom teachers and then donated to a second-hand store.

Finally, Soundview after school classes and care begin next Monday, September 19, 2022 at 3:30 PM. Those registered families will receive an introductory email from Christine Taylor or Sarah Smart. If you have any questions, email them.

Happy Friday,

Chris
