Soundview students had an unforgettable experience this past week, sharing laughter and learning with our wonderful visitors from Ehime University in Japan. Scroll down to explore highlights from this special day on campus, including vibrant photos capturing the joy and connection!
Dear Soundview Community,
I hope you’ve all had a wonderful week and are adjusting well to the time change. With spring just around the corner, there’s so much to look forward to, from special events to new opportunities for our students!
Soundview had the privilege of welcoming university students from Ehime University in Japan on Wednesday as part of the FIUTS Diversity and Education Program. This short-term visiting program provides undergraduate students from Ehime University, who are studying or interested in education, with the opportunity to explore different learning environments. During their visit, the students led interactive lessons on Japanese language and culture in PYP classes, joined our students for recess, and observed MYP classes to gain insight into an IB classroom experience. It was a morning filled with meaningful cultural exchange, hands-on learning, and new connections. You can view photos from this special event below.

We are also thrilled to share that we have surpassed last year’s registration numbers for the upcoming Spring Benefit! One more thing…
On March 14th, 1889 Dr. Susan La Flesche Picotte became the first Native American woman to earn a medical degree in the United States, breaking barriers in the late 19th century. A member of the Omaha Tribe, she dedicated her life to improving healthcare for Indigenous communities, addressing issues like tuberculosis, sanitation, and lack of medical access on reservations. Her work was not only groundbreaking in medicine but also in advocacy, as she fought against government neglect and worked to bridge the gap between Western and Indigenous healing practices. In 1913, she founded a hospital in Walthill, Nebraska, one of the first privately funded hospitals for Native Americans. Her legacy continues to inspire as a symbol of resilience, education, and service to marginalized communities. Learn more HERE.
